The Shuri Karate and Kobudo Preservation Society (一般社団法人首里空手古武道保存会) is the parent organization devoted to preserving and handing down the authentic karate and kobudo (古武道) of Shuri (首里), a birthplace of Okinawan Karate. Under it are its member dojos (道場) — including Shubukan Uema Dojo (守武館 上間道場) — as well as affiliated branches overseas.

Because Shubukan (守武館) practices within this organization, the curriculum you learn on KARATE ONLINE SUI is rooted in a tradition safeguarded by the Society — connecting your daily practice to the living karate of Shuri (首里), Okinawa.

Yes. Shubukan (守武館) Online begins by explaining the basic movements and posture clearly through video, and its practice menus are designed so you can improve effectively.

Yes. Paid members can progress through the curriculum and submit videos for online promotion exams (昇級・昇段審査).

You don't have to start from the very beginning. Based on a placement assessment (実力審査) of your experience, you can skip ahead (飛び級) and begin from a kyu (級) that matches your level, rather than the lowest rank. The details are explained on the curriculum page.

Yes. Shubukan (守武館) Online does not require you to leave your dojo (道場) or style (流派). Many practitioners train with Shubukan (守武館) Online alongside their current dojo (道場).

No. Beginners can start in comfortable clothes. A uniform (道着) can be prepared later.

Lesson and explanation videos are currently available in English, French, and Spanish, with more languages planned.

Born into a dojo (道場) in Shuri (首里), Okinawa — a birthplace of karate — and training since childhood, Master Uema (上間館長) is the 3rd generation director (三代目館長) of Shubukan (守武館). Beyond teaching traditional karate in Japan and abroad, he has rich experience as a sport-karate competitor and coach, and is active in cross-cultural exchange through karate to nurture the next generation.

Yes. Okinawan Karate is practiced as part of daily life by a wide range of generations, and Okinawan karate dojos (道場) have even been featured in Blue Zones coverage. You are welcome at any age — face yourself through daily practice and build a healthy body and mind.
